Family fun at Playdale Farm Park
2/05/2013
We have just returned from a family day out at Playdale Farm Park. This family friendly attraction is only 5 minutes by car from Crows Nest Caravan Park and 10 minutes from Scarborough so we didn’t have to travel very far at all.
It was a dull, windy April day but luckily you don’t need the sunshine to enjoy yourself here. Their slogan is ‘Fun Come Rain or Shine’, and that certainly is true.
We took our 2 year old son together with our 5 year old nephew and 2 ½ year old niece. Entrance is £5.50 for adults and £5.00 for children, under 2’s are free. You can buy animal feed for 50p per bag, and you get more than enough food to feed all of the animals.
Luckily as we arrived it was time for the Guinea Pig handling. There was a small queue but we didn’t have to wait long. We were given a very quick instruction on how to handle the furry little things and were passed one to hold and stroke for 10 minutes or so. It was lovely for our son to stroke it whilst I had hold of it and our nephew and niece were old enough to hold their own. In fact, I was quite attached to my little guy that I wanted to take him home. Obviously I didn’t and handed him back when our turn was over.
We then went to feed the mischievous goats, which the children loved. Our son thought it was brilliant when the goat tickled his hand and was happy to feed them with a little help from mum. We also fed the sheep and alpacas.
The best experience from my point of view was feeding the new born lambs with bottles of milk. However, a word of advice, make sure you sit on the edge of the hay bale area as 2 lambs come out at a time and they start on opposite sides of the area. We were sat in the middle which was the worst place to sit as we fed the lambs last. Our children got a bit impatient but loved it when they did eventually reach us.
As it was lunch time we went to the Playdale Farm Park café and the children had kids meals which were priced at £3.75 (including squash). We just had hot drinks and they were ok and reasonably priced.
We then let the children burn off their excess energy on the playground. We literally had to drag them away from the play area. There was also a hay barn where they can climb all over the hay stacks and get covered in hay which adds to their fun. The soft play area was great for our son and they all enjoyed driving the tractors.
There are also activities aimed at older children including go-karts which our nephew enjoyed although a little bit young for them. They are primarily aimed at children aged 8 to 10 years in my opinion. There was also Frisbee golf, which unfortunately we didn’t get chance to try but looked great fun. The aim is to get the Frisbees through the holes in so many throws (like golf). It was novel.
There is lots to do here and a good few hours can be spent at this great Yorkshire attraction. We will definitely be back!
