Halloween Half Term Spooky Activities
29/09/2023
Are you visiting one of our parks over the upcoming October Half Term? There’s no shortage of spooky activities and Halloween-y events local to us.
Mazes & Activities
A handful of places nearby are going the extra mile this year to put on some of the best family-friendly mazes and trails for both adults and kids to enjoy. The nearby Filey Bird Garden & Animal Park will be all dressed up in Halloween style with it’s animal exhibits transformed into spooky areas as part of their treasure hunt. Grab a free bag of animal feed if you arrive in fancy dress too! Scarborough Castle is running a Halloween trail for the littler ones too – ideal if you’re looking for a spooky activity while exploring one of Scarborough’s best known heritage sites. Ghost stories and tours will be on offer here too!
New for 2023, the Bridlington-based Sewerby Hall and Gardens is hosting it’s first Halloween event “Scareoween”. The main attraction is a walk-through style scary maze with live actors set in Victorian England, with a route through the grounds and old hall. This particular event is suitable for adults and kids aged 10+.
Pumpkin Picking
Looking for a cute pumpkin patch? We’re spoilt for choice with so many nearby, but here are a few of our favorites this year:
Cedar Barn – located on the Pickering road (beside our friends High Oaks Grange), Cedar Barn hosts their yearly Pumpkin Express where you can pick your favorite pumpkin and carve it at their carving station. They also have a delicious café and farm shop with Autumn-inspired offerings.
Playdale Farm – Over the October Half Term Playdale is offering pumpkin picking and carving in their spooky shed for just £13 (including entry to the fun farm). No booking is required.
Humble Bee Farm – Humble Bee’s Pumpkin Patch event is more than just a regular pick-your-own patch. They also have two fun spooky trails to try out, a farm yard with ponies, alpacas and more, and a dedicated pumpkin carving station.
Lights & Illuminations
For those looking for something a little less frightening, try one of the few local attractions that offer special nighttime events with wonderful light displays that you won’t see at any other time of year.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is holding its yearly Light Spectacular, where you can see the heritage steam carriages decorated head-to-toe with bright lights at Pickering Station before it heads off on a special trip to Levisham Station. Tickets for the hour-long trip include flashing neon interactive wristbands, live music and much more.
At Whitby you can see the stunning Whitby Abbey in a new light during their Illuminated Abbey event taking place over the half term week. The haunting ruins will be bathed in bright colorful lights on an evening, making for a beautiful backdrop.
In Scarborough, drop by Peasholm Park on the North Bay on the 27th October to see ‘Moonlight on the Lake’, with the picturesque park lit up in bright colours. Take a leisurely stroll through the park for a magical evening experience.
