The Tabular Hills Walk

Hoping to enjoy more of the great outdoors in 2025? The North York Moors National Park has just the thing! Their Guided Walks Programme offer a huge range of walks, perfect for those wanting to explore more of the Yorkshire Countryside.
The Tabular Hills Walk, held over three weekends this June, begins in Scarborough and ends in the picturesque market town of Helmsley. Taking place between 10am and 4pm on each Saturday and Sunday, each stretch costs only £5.00 (to cover transport back to the start point).
Here's a breakdown of each stretch of the trail and starting points for each weekend, so you can get booking your Active June getaway.
Weekend 1: Scarborough to Levisham
Stay at Crows Nest Caravan Park to be nearest the starting point and enjoy a coastal break, or Jasmine Park, nearest Dalby Forest and ideal for those looking for a bit peace and quiet.
Saturday 7th June: Scalby to Cockmoor Hall – 9.97 miles
The starting stretch of the Tabular Hills Walk takes you from Scalby Village in the north of Scarborough to Cockmoor Hall in Dalby Forest. The walk includes tranquil forest tracks and a few narrow town roads.
Sunday 8th June: Cockmoor Hall to Levisham – 10.91 miles
Walk through sprawling moorlands and deep forest tracks on the second stretch of the trail. At the end of this stretch you will reach the tiny charming village of Levisham, known as a stop on the North York Moors Heritage Railway.

Weekend 2: Levisham to Fadmoor
Stay at Jasmine Park, or Robin Hood Caravan Park in the beautiful Howardian Hills, just a short drive to all stops of this weekend’s walk.
Saturday 14th June: Levisham to Cropton – 9.69 miles
Stretch three passes over the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to Newton Dale, then onto the tranquil village of Cropton. Walk through beautiful open moorland and down farm tracks, often used by bikers and hikers to explore this peaceful area of the national park. You will also pass by the Hole of Horcum, a huge natural amphitheatre.
Sunday 15th June: Cropton to Fadmoor – 8.07 miles
Pass through the picturesque village of Hutton le Hole and its quaint cottages and meandering stream on this next stretch of the Tabular Hills Walk. The village is one of the most photographed in Yorkshire. The majority of this section is made up of farm tracks and quiet roads.

Weekend 3: Fadmoor to Helmsley
Stay at Robin Hood Caravan Park, nearest Helmsley, or treat yourself after your very active weekends and stay with our friends at the luxury High Oaks Grange in Pickering.
Saturday 21st June: Fadmoor to Helmsley – 10.82 miles
This final 10 mile stretch takes you through a wooded valley and quiet farm tracks to Helmsley, a popular and vibrant market town with its own medieval castle. The village is the perfect place to round up your walk with its options of local pubs and cafes.
