Dalby Forest is a stunning and adventurous day out situated on the southern slopes of the North York Moors National Park. Just 20 minutes from Jasmine Park by road, it is an ideal destination for all families, walkers, cyclists and outdoor adventurers. It offers over 8,000 acres of woodland to explore and enjoy with activities for every type of visitor. The southern part of the forest is divided by a number of valleys creating a ‘Rigg and Dale’ landscape while to the north the forest sits on the upland plateau.
The forest boasts 13 different walking trails, 6 cycling trails, 4 running trails, cafes, 2 play areas, BBQ and picnic sites, and a Go Ape adventure course. Start your visit off at the Dalby Forest Visitor Centre where you can pick up maps and guides for the day. Cycling is a must at Dalby Forest.
Visitors wanting to burn off some energy can hire bikes and use the 55 miles of cycle trails to explore the stunning forest grounds. There’s a range of 6 cycling trails from family friendly ones to highly technical demanding routes for the seasoned cyclist. For the more extreme cyclists, head to the cycle skill area at Dixon’s Hollow and the UCI World Cup course which is available for those who fancy a challenge.
Don’t fancy biking?
For a gentle and relaxing stroll within the forest instead you can use any of the way-marked walking trails. These start from several of the car parks and vary in length, so there’s something for everyone. A number of the paths are all for all abilities, and some are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs too. There are plenty of picnic and BBQ spots dotted around the trails, and guide maps for the way-marked trails can be purchased from the Visitor Centre.
Looking for something adventurous to do?
Try Go Ape! It is quickly becoming one of the most popular activities of the forest with both adults and children, with daring zip slides and tree top swings. There’s also a Segway experience - a fun way to travel through the various forest trails and take in the stunning scenery as you go. Smaller children won’t be left out of the fun as there’s also a mini version of the tree top adventure especially for them.
Dalby has a wide range of special events throughout the year, including it’s ever-growing Forest Live music concerts - big names such as Jess Glynne are scheduled to perform during 2019. Check out listings here.
