Visiting Filey

Filey is a small town located in between the large resorts of Scarborough and Bridlington, but despite its size it offers a big share of things to do, see and visit.

The Beach

Did you know Filey beach has been voted one of the best beaches in all of Europe in 2021? This is just one of the many awards it holds, and when you visit you’ll definitely see why. The five-mile long sandy beach has tons of room for sunbathing, castle-building and walking, and features some rentable chalets, a small selection of amusements for the kids and plenty of places to grab an ice cream or some fish and chips. There’s also a mini golf course and a few rides for the children along the promenade.

The beach is only dog friendly seasonally, so your furry friends can enjoy the beach between October and April. The outdoor paddling pool, located near the south end, is open seasonally between March and September.

The Town

Filey’s small town centre has plenty of independent gift shops, takeaways, restaurants and cafes. In the centre you’ll find the Memorial Gardens which holds some exotic bird enclosures. Try Filey Bistro on the main street for a spot of lunch or a fancy afternoon tea served on a mini picnic table, or head to one of the many award-winning fish and chip takeaways.

Filey Museum is located down one of the old town streets in the centre, head here for a look at what Filey was like many years ago. This award-winning small attraction is open from Easter until October.

Filey Bird & Animal Park is a top rated attraction in the area too, located on the way into Filey from Crows Nest. Here you can see all sorts of animals and birds from colourful parrots to alpacas. It is a great family friendly day out spot.

The Gardens

Glen Gardens is well worth a visit on your day out to Filey. Located around 10 minutes walk from the town centre, these gardens have a boating lake, golf club and play area for the kids. There’s lots of green space for picnics but if you don’t fancy bringing one, you can eat at the café near the lake.

Crescent Gardens are another of the beautiful flowery green spaces in the town worth a walk to. The Crescent has incredible views of the beach and the headlands from the cliff tops beside the town centre, and in summer you can catch live singers and bands playing at the bandstand. Filey International Food Festival is hosted here a few times a year too – it brings over 70 stalls of Yorkshire food, artisan desserts, and prosecco and cider bars. This year the dates for the festival are:

18th – 19th June | 13th – 14th August | 15th – 16th October

Getting There

Filey is just two short miles south of Crows Nest, or three if you walk the Cleveland Way – accessible from our tent field - around the headlands leading to Filey Brigg. If you’re driving, parking can be difficult in the town. You can find parking spaces in the town centre near Tesco, or down the ravine road heading to the beach.

To get there by bus, catch the 13 or 555 from the stop at our entrance. Get off at Filey Bus Station in the centre of town, where you can also get the return bus from. Pop into reception for a timetable.

There are a number of taxi firms we can recommend to get you to Filey too if there’s a large group of you or you need disabled access.
